Ceramic Coating

You may have heard of Ceramic Coating, the latest marine technology. Wondering what it is and how it's different from regular marine wax?

What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating, also known as nano-ceramic coating or glass coating, is a liquid polymer applied to the exterior surfaces of vehicles, boats, or other objects to protect them from various environmental contaminants and enhance their appearance. Despite the name, ceramic coatings do not contain actual ceramic materials; they are based on nanotechnology.

The ceramic coat forms a strong chemical bond with the surface, creating a protective and hydrophobic layer. The name "ceramic" is given to it because of the hardness and durability it offers, similar to ceramic materials.

Key features and benefits of ceramic coatings:

  1. Ceramic coatings protect against dirt, water spots, bird droppings, tree sap, UV rays, and scratches. They create a strong shield.

  2. Ceramic coatings are water-repellent, so water and liquids form beads and slide off easily. This keeps things cleaner and makes washing simpler.

  3. Ceramic coatings shield against UV rays, stopping fading, oxidation, and paint or finish damage caused by ultraviolet radiation.

  4. Enhanced Gloss and Shine: The coating adds depth and gloss to the surface, enhancing the overall appearance of the object.

  5. Ceramic coatings usually last longer than wax or sealant protection, but it depends on the product and how it's used.

  6. Chemical Resistance: The coating offers resistance to certain chemicals and contaminants, reducing the risk of damage to the surface.

It's important to note that while ceramic coatings provide excellent protection, they are not invincible. Harsh physical impacts, abrasive cleaning methods, or strong chemical exposure can still damage them. Additionally, the effectiveness of the coating largely depends on proper application, surface preparation, and maintenance.
To apply a ceramic coating, the surface must be clean and polished. Then, the coating is carefully applied in layers. To achieve the best results, a professional detailer should apply the coating.
